Call for Interest: Academic Hosts ENGAGE.EU Think Tank on Responsible AI and Society

The University Toulouse Capitole invites expressions of interest from senior researchers wishing to serve as academic hosts for the upcoming ENGAGE.EU Think Tank on “Responsible AI and Society”, to be held in 9-12 June 2026 in Toulouse, France.

This event will be co-organised by:

• Jean-Guy Mailly, Junior Professor Chair in AI, Data, Algorithms and Law
  Team LILaC – Intelligent systems based on theories and techniques from knowledge representation, logic, game theory, argumentation, and verification techniques.

  Team SIG – Generalised Information Systems, focusing on automatic selection and parametrisation of machine learning algorithms and the explainability of AI.

Theme: Responsible AI and Society

The ENGAGE.EU Think Tank will foster interdisciplinary dialogue between researchers in computer science, law, social sciences, and economics to explore how AI can be designed, deployed, and governed responsibly.

Foreseen main research axes :

1. Responsible AI
   Examine the ethical, legal, and social dimensions involved in the development, regulation, and use of AI, notably with reference to the AI Act framework.
   Topics may include algorithmic accountability, data governance, human oversight, and regulatory compliance.
2. Fair AI
   Investigate the issue of fairness in AI systems:
   • How can we ensure that AI operates fairly for all users, regardless of their profiles or usage contexts?
   • How are different social groups affected by these systems?
   • What mechanisms can strengthen transparency and trust in automated decision-making processes?

How to express interest

Interested researchers are invited to send a short statement of interest (1-2 pages max) including:

• A brief description of their research background and expertise.
• A motivation for collaborating on the Think Tank theme.
• Potential contributions to the event’s program (e.g., session proposals, keynote themes, panel discussions).
