Make more impact with your research

ENGAGE.EU offers a new format for researchers to collaborate with societal partners on real and urgent challenges related to AI&Skills. We developed an add-on to the Expedition week, a collaboration format that has proven to be successful in connecting students with societal partners. The ENGAGE.EU Expedition+ has been expanded to include an academic exchange among researchers. If you are a passionate researcher with an interest in the topic of AI & Skills, we have organized a 3-day research stay at Tilburg University for you.  Where you will be able to contribute to addressing societal challenges on AI & Skills, by sharing and exchanging knowledge from your own perspective and creating new knowledge on the topic with students and societal partners. You will expand your network with international and local colleagues who work on the same issues, and societal partners who deal with this topic in their daily work. Additionally, you will gain experience on the ‘how’ of working with (societal) partners.

A Paradigm Shift on the Labor Market: Navigating the Skills & AI Landscape

Many urban areas, such as Tilburg, Mannheim and Rome, are facing demographic shifts, like aging populations and declining birth rates, with potentially critical consequences for urban environments and their communities. Equipping urban economies with necessary skills for sustainable growth is crucial in helping regions and cities avoid falling into a talent development trap, which represents a decline in the working-age population, a mismatch between education and the labor market (both in terms of quantity and quality), and difficulties in retaining talent. If left unaddressed, this talent development trap can further deepen structural labor market inefficiencies and innovation shortfalls. In the midst of this paradigm shift, Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerges as a major force reshaping the landscape of the labor market and skill demands. AI, with its profound implications for productivity, innovation, and job creation, introduces both opportunities and challenges for urban economies. https://www.research-community-engage.eu/news/paradigm-shift-labor-market-navigating-skills-ai-landscape

Get involved in the research community

When you join the Expedition+ Week, you also become embedded in a research community on AI & Skills.  Already several academics from a variety of universities and disciplines are connected and have met each other virtually. They discussed on the very broad topic of AI and Skills and came to the focused research paper that you can read in this article. The community will meet each other virtually 4-5 times a year, in research colloquia in which recent research papers on the topic will  be discussed and where you can speak about collaboration opportunities for future research. All researchers with an interest in the topic can join the collaboration group on the community platform: : AI & Skills Research Community. We will then invite you to the webinars and you can exchange on other related events, opportunities and inspirational papers.

During the Expedition+ Week, the research community will have the opportunity to do a deep-dive on the topic. We developed a full program from 20-22 November for researchers where you can exchange research insights, discuss and work on collaboration projects, meet several experts on the topic of AI&Skills and visit societal partners. You will contribute to the success of the student challenges, by giving them feedback and academic insights on their proposed solutions. You will meet researchers from a variety of disciplines who work on this topic, and gain insights into how we run ‘Academic Collaborative Centers’ in Tilburg University. Characteristic of all Tilburg University academic collaborative centers is the multi-year, interdisciplinary collaboration in co-creation with businesses, governments, and other knowledge institutions, driven by a shared ambition.
