WU Gender and Diversity Conference 2025

20-21 March 2025, Vienna Austria

WU Vienna University of Economics and Business

Conference Theme: Gender and Power Dynamics
Exploring the Intersections of Gender and Power in Contemporary Contexts

The WU Gender and Diversity Conference 2025 is proud to announce its theme, Gender and Power Dynamics. This theme seeks to explore and expand the discourse around how power is distributed, experienced, and contested in relation to gender across various contexts. We invite scholars, practitioners, and activists to join us in a critical examination of the ways in which gender and power intersect and shape our social, political, and economic realities.

Conference Focus:
Gender-power relations provide a lens through which to analyze how power influences and is influenced by gender in diverse settings. This conference aims to advance our understanding of the complex dynamics at play by addressing key questions, such as:

  • What are the critical research questions that could advance the field of gender and power dynamics, particularly in relation to organizational action, processes, or practices?

  • What do we currently understand about the intersection of gender and power in organizational reality and practice? What crucial gaps in knowledge still need to be addressed?

  • How can we reconcile discrepancies between theoretical frameworks, practical applications, and the lived experiences of gender and power?

  • How do intersecting identities, such as race, class, disability, and sexual orientation, influence gender and power dynamics, including the distribution and exercise of power within organizational settings, and what effective strategies can be developed to address these complex power imbalances and promote more equitable practices?

  • What unique challenges and perspectives arise when considering transgender identities or masculinities within the context of power dynamics?

We encourage submissions that not only deepen our theoretical understanding but also push forward innovative practices and methodologies. The goal of this conference is to spark new conversations and insights that will drive both theory, empirical research, and practice forward in meaningful ways.

Topics of Interest:
Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Gender-power dynamics in various social, political, and economic contexts.

  • Intersectionality and its impact on power relations.

  • Organizational practices and policies that influence gender-power dynamics.

  • Transgender identities and power.

  • Masculinities and power.

  • Comparative studies of gender and power across different cultures or contexts.

  • The role of activism in challenging and reshaping power dynamics.
