Postdoc
I am a postdoctoral researcher at LUISS specialised in History and Theory of International Relations, European Union studies, and the history of the Second World War and the Cold War. I analyse these topics through historical lens and with a close connection to the literature on informal governance and advising, knowledge regimes, think tanks, soft power, public diplomacy, and network theory.
I am currently developing innovative research on the history of EU foreign policy in the post-Cold War (1991-2001) era from the perspective of experts, think tanks, knowledge regimes and informal policy network.
I am actively involved in Engage initiatives through my local unit in some dissemination and podcasting projects. I am now looking to test myself in other research initiatives that may require applying for grants & funding.
In particular, I am looking for colleagues from other universities in the Alliance, at all career stages, who would like to set up thematic conferences and even co-author articles on one of the following topics:
- EU Foreign and Security Policy
- Informal advising in EU politics
- Foresight, anticipatory governance and strategic planning in the neoliberal era
- EU global actorness and diplomatic ties with the MENA countries and the Middle East
- The History of transatlantic relations in the post-Cold War era
- The role of experts, think tanks and knowledge regimes in informal diplomacy through history and nowadays
- The intellectual history of Western strategic thinking
- The impact of ideas on the different stages of policy-making
- Practices of private-public nexus and informal consensus-building in the neoliberal era
This list summarises the key topics of my last investigations and publications. Since 2017, I have published essays in the Journal of Contemporary History, Journal of European Integration History, History of European Ideas Journal, Glocalism Journal, and for Pavia University Press. In January 2025, I published my first book with Routledge under the title of "Building Europe in New York: from the Munich Conference to the Schuman Plan (1938-1952)"
Having spent time researching in the US (Princeton University), the Netherlands (RIAS), Switzerland (Jean Monnet Institute) and the UK (Chatham House), I'm now looking for new opportunities to spend time researching abroad. I would be particularly interested in visits to partner departments as part of Engage-sponsored visit programmes.
