Lecturers and topics of the lecture series fall 23

After the success of the first lecture series on Data Science last year, the Mannheim Center for Data Science (MCDS) and the European University ENGAGE.EU are again organizing the lecture series "Data Science in Action". Experts from the University of Mannheim as well as from five other international universities are participating.

The aim of the lecture series is to highlight the diverse application areas of data science and to provide exciting insights into the related research. Eleven renowned scientists will provide insights into different topics in 45-minute lectures, which will then be discussed with the participants.

The lecture series is both interdisciplinary and international. The lecturers come from the University of Mannheim, the University of Nebraska Omaha, and partner universities that are part of the European University Alliance ENGAGE.EU, an association of leading European universities in the economic and social sciences.

The first presentations were a complete success. The audience of about 50 asked many questions and gave positive feedback. We are therefore looking forward to the next exciting contributions from various application areas of Data Science. The presentations range from "Researching Research" (Mikael Laakso, Hanken School of Economics, Finland) to "Data Science for Health Innovation and Entrepreneurship" (Elisabeth Huis in t' Veld, Tilburg University, Netherlands) and “Quality of survey responses – the biasing effect of acquiescence” (Beatrice Rammstedt, University of Mannheim).

The participants come from the Data Science Master's program and the Graduate School of the University of Mannheim, but also from the engage network, since the course is open as a signature course also for students of partner universities. Since the lectures take place online, anyone who is interested may participate, as long as they do not want to take an exam.

Lectures will be held online via Zoom and in English every Thursday from 12 to 1:30 p.m. until December 7th, 2023. All interested parties are welcome to join at any session and can register via MCDS's website to access the Zoom link.
