Call for teaching proposals for summer school on AI

Are you teaching on topics related to societal impacts of Artificial Intelligence? Please send in your proposal before the 26th of January and become part of the summer school in Toulouse!

Summer School: June 17-28, 2024

ENGAGE.EU Summer Schools are intensive summer programs taught by professors and lecturers from ENGAGE.EU universities. In line with the general ENGAGE.EU goals, these programs aim to provide a forum for interdisciplinary academic exchange and learning on current societal challenges.


Topics and Format

This summer school, hosted by Toulouse Capitole University, aims to cover all societal impacts of Artificial Intelligence; Proposals for courses are invited in all areas of Artificial Intelligence, Political Science, Management Science, Law, Economics. Teaching will consist of five, 75-minute lectures offered daily (Monday-Friday) in a single week. Proposals that include student challenges are also eligible and may include tutorial or lab sessions.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following list:

  • Regulation
  • Security and Privacy
  • Digital Economy
  • Climate Change and Sustainability
  • Health and well-being
  • Social Development
  • Socially Responsible AI
  • Education


Courses

Courses are intended to introduce a research field to Social Science or AI upper-level bachelor students. Such courses should enable students to develop some comfort and competence in the topic considered. The courses should be Introductory courses in a cross-disciplinary area, and may presuppose general knowledge of the related disciplines. Approximately 45 students are expected to attend the summer school.


Proposal Guidelines

Course proposals should consider the following guidelines and recommendations:

  • Courses must be presented by lecturers who submitted the proposal.
  • Pre-requisites should be clearly identified.

Proposals should include:

  • Proposer
    o Name and Affiliation, homepage, and research area
    o Short CV may be attached to the proposal (appendix)
  • Title
  • Summary (150 words max)
  • Description, possibly including information about desired assessment method (1 page max)
  • Tentative outline
  • References (optional – could be textbooks or surveys)
  • Experience of the proposer in interdisciplinary summer schools (optional)
     

Submission Information

Course proposal and application should be submitted via email to internationalisation@ut-capitole.fr by January 26, 2024. Selections will be made based on the following criteria: 1) Intersectionality between course and ENGAGE.EU learning goals; 2) Level of development of teaching plan; 3) Equilibrium of teaching topic chosen with other proposals. Priority given to early career candidates.
