Joint Call for Proposals on Solutions for Carbon-Neutral Cities

Funding body: Concert Japan, Bulgarian National Science Fund (BNSF), Bulgaria, France – National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS);

Objective: This call for proposals invites Japan and Europe-based researchers to develop new solutions to improve the sustainability of urban environments. Develop new solutions to improve the sustainability of urban environments. As articulated in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by 2030, achieving a climate-neutral society.

Eligible applicants:

  • Public and private legal RTD entities, higher education institutions and non-university research establishments, as well as enterprises and other kinds of organisations;
  • Each project consortium submitting an application should consist of at least three eligible beneficiaries (project partners), one from Japan and two from two different European countries participating in the Joint Call.
  • Countries participating in the call: Bulgaria, Czechia, France, Hungary, Japan, Poland, Slovakia, Türkiye.

BNSF Eligibility Requirements for applicants based in Bulgaria:

  • - Only proposals involving basic research may be submitted in response to the call for proposals;
  • - Accredited universities as defined in Art.85 para. 1, p. 7 of the Higher Education Act;
  • - Research organizations as defined in Art. 47, para. 1 of the Higher Education Act.

Budget:

Individual national funding contribution by BNSF (Bulgaria): € 383 468 (BGN 750 000 or BGN 250 000 per project)

  • Research materials and small-scale research equipment
  • Travel costs
  • Expenses for the organisation of small scientific events
  • Personnel costs
  • Funding rates: 100 %

Individual national funding contribution by National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) (France): 

  • The level of the funding of French researchers may be up to EUR 12,000 per project per year, over 3 years.
  • Travel costs
  • Living expenses
  • Expenses for the organisation of small scientific events in France 
  • Research materials and small-scale research equipment 
  • Personnel costs National rules and CNRS internal processes will apply

Duration: 36 months
